Peg Recommends
After years of doing paddle board, kayak, hike, and yoga tours and always being asked where my favorite places to go are, what the best places to eat are, and where the locals hang out, I have finally written it down for all. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need more information about any of the below. These are my favorites. Enjoy!

5 Palms at the Mana Kai
The only restaurant on this side of the Island that is RIGHT ON THE OCEAN! As such, it has spectacular views. Sit outside on the lanai area, it’s the most Hawaiian feeling place that I know. I have been going there since I was a little girl. The crab omelet is the best and they have stellar Bloody Marys.Fred’s Cafe
A local Mexican cafe that’s great for breakfast after we have been on the water boating, paddling, diving, or whatever else. Great Bloody Marys and margaritas! Go before 10:30 a.m. and make sure to get the coupon for 2 for 1 out of the Maui Gold booklet (It says Moose McGillycuddy’s but they accept it at Fred’s; same company/same building).3’s Surf Bar
Among the hubbub of cute Hawaiian shops they have a great outdoor seating area. The food is excellent and has a cool local vibe. Get the breakfast special. Whatever it is that day, it’s awesome.Fabiani’s Bakery & Restaurant
Cappuccino & chocolate croissant. Try it. Although everything is delish!Komoda Store & Bakery
A great step back to simpler days and an absolute locals’ place. They have amazing baked goods. You need to try the stick donut, it will change your life. Totally worth the ~30-min. trek from Wailea. -
Fred’s Cafe
We love this place and although I hate to repeat myself, they DO have the best fish tacos around! Sit at the bar any time you go, you’ll be surrounded by locals! PS: The bartenders are super cool, tell ‘em Peg sent ya!Jawz Tacos
Any one of their food trucks or the main restaurant will do! Their fish tacos are awesome. All of the food is excellent! The end.Mulligan’s on the Blue
Great ocean view and lots of TVs to watch your favorite sports! Plus, awesome bartenders and excellent beer choices. Fish & chips is great! Good for an afternoon beverage. I’m just sayin’… it is Maui. -
Sansei Sushi
Great anytime. If you’re smart, you’ll take a seat at the bar. Not the sushi bar, the bar bar. It has open seating and you could have a drink in a pinch if you have to wait, it is well worth it! Incredible sushi. Try the Spicy Scallop Sushi (not on the menu, but my all time favorite).Three’s Bar & Grill
Love this place, they have sofa seating! Great chefs and owners and the sushi is really to die for. You can also sit in their outdoor seating area as well. -
5Palms at the Mana Kai!
(3 p.m.-7 p.m. and 9 p.m.-11 p.m.)
As I said before, this is the only restaurant right on the ocean on this side of the Island. Half-price sushi and pupu’s (appetizers) along with drink specials. The sun sets over the ocean and the whales come right up to the shore sometimes. Stunning. Go early so you can get a seat! The best, hands down.Tiki Lounge
(11 a.m.-4 p.m.)
Just a cool place where you could totally find yourself anytime after 11:00 a.m. Great food, it’s more casual and also has music from 4-6 daily. Cool “local” ambiance. -
Mulligans on the Blue
It’s just so Maui, ya gotta go! Check out the Willie K. Dinner Show or the Celtic Tigers. Go to the website for more info on who’s playing which night. This is also a great place to watch sports with an ocean view and TV’s everywhere!Dog & Duck
Down & dirty awesome Irish Pub. The bartenders and staff are the best! They have a dart board, soccer on most of the time and Trivia Night on Thursdays! PS: They have great pub food… Bonus!Ambrosia Martini Bar
Great little martini bar that feels like a city bar when you’re inside. They have DJ’s some nights and special events. Check out their website for more info. Just a really cool place, you should go check it out.
